New idea vs old habit....whats better for you - When I Grow Up
New idea vs old habit....whats better for you - When I Grow Up If youre not familiar with Life Remix, its a wonderful site that rounds up life-enhancing bloggers and puts them in the same space. Its where I found the last post I wrote about, and its where I found another one today that also made me stop and think. In How to Make Profound Lasting Change, Think Simple Now asks the question: Does this work for me better for my life than what I am presently using? Can you imagine asking yourself that before embarking on an new endeavor? On any endeavor? Close your eyes right now and think about something that youre being challenged with. If theres nothing there (lucky you!), think of that new idea youve been wanting to implement into your life (ie working out at 6a) but just havent gotten around to it. Now, without censoring yourself, ask, Does this work for me better for my life than what I am presently using? Whats the answer? If its not Running at 6a with the crazy-fast-runner-fanatics sounds fantastic! then thats OK! Try to think, then, of another way to reach your goal. Maybe instead of waking up at an ungodly hour, you instead think that you can go to the gym on your lunch break. Now ask, Does this work for me better for my life than what I am presently using? If the answer is yes, its easy to take it from there. I always take an hour for lunch, and sit in the break room gossiping with a friend. I should tell her to bring a change of clothes, and well hit the treadmill instead! Thatll also make me really energized for the rest of my day, and will give me a chance to clear my head. Itll also make me less of a Gossipy McGee, and nobody likes a Gossipy McGee. Or a Nosy Nelly. Or any name that has alliteration. At the end of a session, I give my client a challenge. This week, I challenge myself to ask Does this work for me better for my life than what I am presently using? If you decide to implement the same challenge, please leave me a comment and let me know how youre doing with it!

The digital revolution has transformed everything about our consumer channels and behaviorshow we shop, bank, consume news and stay in touch with friends has transformed completely. This revolution has also ushered in the ability to gather and aggregate consumer demographics in innovative ways. So it only makes sense that absatzwirtschaft departmentsin structure and strategyhave changed dramatically, too.Gone are the days of Don Draper-types waxing poetic about laundry detergent in pursuit of the perfect magazine copy. And say goodbye to the era that treated having a digital presencea website and social media, in particularas absatzwirtschaft, too. We live in a multi-channel world now. A digital presence is table stakes. These days, CRMs are super-charging the impact creative cam paigns can have. And you need creativity, sure. But that creativity should be a compliment to a data-driven strategy.Companies spend an average of about 11% of their gross revenue on Marketing and Advertising annually, according to arecent Gartner study. And one thing that hasnt changed about marketing in the last decade? A collective interest to see the best return on that investment. Luckily, marketing kollektivs are primed to create more value for their companies than ever before, but it takes the right talent to realize that potential. The companies that have a competitive edge have marketing teams that can marry their creative efforts with revenue-driven, analytical plans.A data literate Marketing team is the new secret weaponWere living in anexpectation economy. Consumers expectations for the brands they consume are high and there are plenty of other options if theyre disappointed by your brand. With all of the noise across channels out there, you have to know your audience we ll enough to find them and inspire them to choose your brand or solution over anyone elses.Companies are responding by learning about their current and would-be consumers through data collection. In fact, most are gathering more data than ever, but the collection of data means almost nothing if your Marketing team isnt data literate. Marketing pros need to be able to use data to tell powerful stories. This includes deciphering the data youre collecting on your customers into a clear narrative about their reported perceptions and experiences with your brand along with the data on your competitors, their market share and your strategic growth priorities. It also means leveraging data to create and track a clear story of your Marketing strategy. What efforts and investments are paying dividends by gaining tractionwhether drawing in new customers or increasing brand awareness? And what strategies or tactics arent landing? A team that can translate their companys data into a long-term pla n to move forward is the difference between a reactive, downstream marketing team and a strategic, upstream one.Marketing talent that plays well cross-functionally is paramountYouve heard about the temperamental creative types, right? Their work is preciousnot to be tampered with. Theyre not exactly popular among their colleagues, but theyre ideas are original, maybe even special. In the new world of Marketing, temperamental creative types are looking more and more like dinosaurs.Dont misunderstand, creativity is still important. But playing well with others is a prerequisite. And being able and willing to socialize your ideas and collaborate with others is only half the battle.Your marketing team should be collaborating with your product team to decide what to build next (and what to stop building altogether). They should work regularly with your CFO to understand your biggest revenue-driving efforts for the year and howtheyre performing. They should beteaming up with your CIOto le verage technology to create innovative experiences for your consumers. They should be promoting brand continuity with your customer service team. In short, marketing teams should be silo bustersable to understand the geschftlicher umgang of each department and work collaboratively across functions to create experience-driven, revenue-driving campaigns. So when you look at your companys strategic plan and your marketing strategy, do you see a Marketing bench of talent ready to respond? Do you have a strategy in place with initiatives earmarked for growing market share and respond to consumer trends? Does your Marketing team understand how their efforts are hitting your bottom line? If the answer is not quite, youre not alone. Some of my clients are just starting to process some of the changes to the Marketing industry, and Ive been working with them to shift their Marketing talent to be more strategic, data-driven and business savvy. The good news? You dont have to turn over your marke ting team to be successful, but you do need to bring in a few folks in pivotal roles to create the right roadmap. A recruiter that specializes in marketing talent can help you evaluate where you are and identify a few key roles that will get you on the path to a marketing dream team.

Job Search Tips Inspired by The BeatlesJob Search Tips Inspired by The BeatlesYou may be saying to yourself, Job search tips inspired by the Beatles? Yup This iconic band has been in the public eye since 1960. Even though they only had a 10-year run, their messages have been heard over and over throughout the decades. The ability to create music that makes a large impact on a generation is no small job. The messages in those songs have to be simple and meaningful. Lets take a stroll down Abby Road to see just what kind of inspiration we can find in some of The Beatles hit songs. Hey JudeLets kick it off with one of the most leidable songs of 1968. I bet youll immediately abflug to sing the open lines to this song. Hey Jude, Dont be afraid. Take a sad song and make it better. Job hunting can be very stressful for some people especially if you are unemployed and are looking to return to the workforce asap. Whether it was voluntary or involuntary unemployment, being out of work is stres sful on almost every household. On top of household stress, you can add the grind of finding a job. Updating your resume, applications, interviews, researching companies, and networking make finding a new job well, a full-time job. Over this time a person can find themselves reminiscing over the loss of their past job, or being apprehensive about future opportunities. In a competitive job market, the constant rejection can wear on a person after a while. By taking some advice from Paul, one can reorient themselves toward the bright side of job hunting. If things seem to be hitting a wall and you dont know why take the time to make it better. Be direct with your prospective employers. Ask for feedback on how to improve your resume, interview skills, or to just find out how you can improve your job hunting skills. After all, that perfect job is out there somewhere, and you will want to be well polished to get it. Day Tripper/We Can Work It OutEveryone needs a reminder when we are caug ht up in drama. Life is very short and theres no time for fussing and fighting my friends Have you ever watched Bridezilla? Its that show about people getting caught up in the fuss and the muss of getting married. Tieing the knot is way up there on the list of lifes stressful processes. Getting caught up in picking on small details to find the perfect job or company will always slow anyone down. Its good to be well organized and put together, but there is a level of too much detail at the cost of moving forward. Be prepared for the job when its in front of you, not after it passes you by. Keep moving. You cant accept the perfect job offer if you are busy fussing with details that dont carry the weight with your prospective employer that you think they do. Cant Buy Me Love Remember this one.Cause money cant buy me love Stacking job applications from the highest salary to the lowest is one type of prioritization strategy that people sometimes use. Who doesnt want to be Scrooge McDuck rolling around in piles of cash? In some cases, people choose their job based on the highest salary. The consequences of such, on their health and happiness, can be pretty dramatic. We have all heard cautionary tales and stories like the young law associates sleeping in their offices three or more nights a week. BIg pay often comes with big accountability. Can the extra money buy you love? The answer, according to The Beatles, is no. But what about you? Do you have or want a family? Do you like time off? Do you like strong company benefits? Are you willing to trade all or some of these things for a larger salary? All of these are important considerations to make when applying for your new job. Wealth is measured in all kinds of metrics. You just have to find out how you measure yours. HelpPeople often struggle with thisAsking for help. When I was younger, so much younger than today. I never needed anybodys help in any way. But now these days are gone. Im not so self-assured. Now I f ind, Ive changed my mind, Ive opened up the doorsThere are many situations where a little help goes a long way. You could be looking for a new job after working for the same company for 15+ years. You could be changing career paths. You could be brand new to the workforce. In all these instances, a little help will go a long way.Dont be afraid to ask your network for some fresh ideas and motivation. Find a mentor. Someone who has successfully completed the journey that you are on. Their perspective can help guide you along your way and can lift you up if you were ever to be in bad spirits. While family and friends are the low hanging fruit of networking, look elsewhere as well. People are very diverse in their experience and approach. Some people put peanut butter on both sides of their PBJ. Some do not. Some people cut the crust off. Some use whole grain. Some use white. But, the same goal of eating is being achieved by alland everyone has to eat and work.
